Be good to those who are good
And to those who are not,
For goodness increases goodness.
Have faith in those who are faithful
And in those who are not,
For faith brings greater faith,
And goodness and faith build peace.

In the words of Nick Lowe: "What's So Funny 'bout Peace, Love and Understanding?" The Taoist master might reply, "Nothing!" - and make a mischievous play on words as his answer.

That's just one of the many things that I like about Taoism - the ancient Eastern philosophy of the Dao De Jing, the ancient Chinese text written by Lao Tzu, 2,500 years before Columbus discovered America.

The Dao advocates living in harmony with our natural surroundings. Respecting our environment. Following The Way (Dao). Existing in concert, not conflict, with our world. Going with the flow (Wu Wei).

I believe that we all have an obligation to leave the world a better place than we found it. In the tradition of Wu Wei, I try to Think Globally and Act Locally. Working with kids is a wonderful and fun way to make a positive difference in the world. It also provides a ray of hope during those overwhelming times when it seems that we live in a world that is intent on destroying our planet (it's the only one we get), and in a society that is "too busy" for its own children.

I highly recommend two books, both written by Benjamin Hoff: The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet. Clever and insightful, Mr. Hoff's writings are a source of inspiration, guidance and hope.
